Compensate and avoid!
You can always do more in order to protect the climate
Compensating CO2 emissions via biotic means does not relieve oneself from the task of trying to further avoid the emission of greenhouse gases.:
1. Because storing CO2 in forests and wood is not 100 % guaranteed, it makes sense to additionally avoid emissions to secure the relief one has prompted via afforestation.
2. Completely avoiding current CO2 emissions in the future that are "only" being disposed of in a biotic manner for the time being would, to a proportional extent, "free up" the afforested area for compensating the CO2 emissions of others. This aspect is especially important in regards to the people in developing countries, in order to enable these people to find a balance between technical progress and climate protection.
3. If emissions are avoided, the abundant compensation-capacity of areas that have been afforested to neutralize current CO2 emissions can then be used to neutralize CO2 emissions of the past.

Because of the aforementioned reasons, he or she who by means of afforestation has partially or completely neutralized his or her CO2 emissions still has the duty to avoid emissions as soon as possible!
