The cooperation-treaty - an agreement of partners
If a project is evaluated positively by PrimaKlima the partners sign a treaty of cooperation. Important issues of the treaty are:

• definition of the project area,
• definition of the project time-frame between 35 and 100 years,
• aim and most important activities of the projects,
• money to be paid by PrimaKlima,
• clarification of the rights of the carbon-ecological effects,
• monitoring,
• big projects are secured by an enlarged project-management.

A more simple treaty -securing the carbon-effects for PrimaKlima - can be signed if a project is secured by public law - as it is the case in Germany.

A project becomes reality
When it comes to realizing a project PrimaKlima makes a difference between (1) projects in Germany and smaller projects abroad and (2) international and large projects.

(1) Projects in Germany and smaller projects abroad
This category consists in projects in Germany and projects abroad that are either reforestation of areas smaller than 100 ha or protection of forests smaller than 1000 ha . The partners realize the steps of the projects defined in the cooperation treaty. In exchange they are paid by PrimaKlima. After that the monitoring-concept for control and documentation of a project starts: The most important parts are reports to PrimaKlima that give information about the status of the project-areas. Control of reforestation is done by standard-protocols. Control of forest-protection has to take into account a greater variety of measures - therefore follows an individual monitoring process. During the first ten years of a project the reports have to come every two years, after that they come every four years.

(2) International large projects
These projects aim to be integrative. The goal is to achieve not only carbon-binding-effects but also sustainable development in the area chosen. To realize such complex projects there is a need for (1) enlarged planning (2) special management and (3) external audit and certification.

Enlarged planning
Broad planning and drafting of a project based on an analysis of the situation and the problem is done in cooperation between PrimaKlima, the project-partner, and other important participants. They define the specific goals of the project, the measures that have to be taken, the indicators for the success and the risks of the project.
